The tour continues between wineyards and olive plantations of the valley of Dragonja river in the beautiful peaceful surroundings and up to the villages Rojci and Pomjan. Here the road straightens a bit. The road stops for an Istrian snack in the village Šmarje and continues through Križišče, Gažon, and Šared. Some short stops will be made in order to enjoy in the beautiful views. Then the road leads you from Šared to Maliji and back to the starting point. This tour is further described below. See you at the point of many views.

  • eBike instructions: include basic information about what an eBike is and how does it work; on which things a cyclist has to pay attention when riding an eBike and the test ride.
  • Very important: the ability to ride a bike is necessary.
  • Portorož – the flower town: across Beli Križ and downhill, the road leads you through Portorož without any stops.
  • Paranzana: in Lucija the road joins the popular Paranzana cycling track through camp Lucija and to the Cape Seča past gardens of cactuses and further to the Canal of St. Jernej.
  • Salt pans of Sečovlje: eBiking through the entire salt pans of Sečovlje. Here a short stop will be made in order to get some healthy sea air full of iodine. Then the tour continues to the crossing border of Sečovlje and further to village Dragonja along the national border.
  • The valley of the river Dragonja: the tour runs between the vineyards, a part of the road is in the bad shape, which soon turns into a macadam road. It slowly goes uphill but the beautiful peaceful surroundings makes it easier. A house or two with its own wine-yards can be seen on the way. In the past this lonely valley was full of water mills. However, a mill or two is still preserved for you to see.
  • Rojci: cycling uphill will be a perfect test what an eBike can manage. The ascent to the vineyards and olive plantations ends up in the village Rojci.
  • Pomjan: here the road straightens and you reach the highest point of the village called Šavrin’s hill 342 meters high. The village got its name after the apple plantations (pomi) which covered the surroundings of the present village in the past.
  • Šmarje: up and down of this hill the road takes you to the larger Istrian village where a stop for an Istrian snack waits for you. Enjoying the local food with a glass of wine will be very refreshing.
  • Križišče, Gažon: a short descent to the mountain hamlet called Križišče – Gažon follows after a snack which will give you the necessary energy for the rest of the tour. This mountain hamlet lies at the highest point of the main road which runs from Koper to Sečovlje and is known for heavy traffic. In summer time caution when crossing the road is necessary.
  • Gažon: here the tour turns away from the crowdy road. After a short ascent a road brings you to the larger and densely populated Istrian village under the top of the Turn hill.
  • Šared: along Istrian landscape between mediterranean vegetation you reach the 268 metres high hill streching above Izola. At this point one can admire the outstanding view on the entire seashore of the northern Adriatic with Friuli, Karst and higher situated plateaus and mountain ranges in the background, such as, the Dolomites, the Krn and Julian Alps, Nanos, Vremščica, Čičarija with Učka and Snežnik.
  • Malija: all the effort of previous ascents will pay off by wonderful panoramic bike ride to the Istrian village, 278 metres above the sea, with undisturbed views on the Coast and Istria. Here a short stop and the possibility of sightseeing of the older part of the village with two parallel lines of houses will be made. Then the road goes towards Valeta and back to the starting point.
  • Wine tasting: our socializing does not end at this point. We will afford ourselves a glass or two of good wine and sum up all the impressions of the tour.
  • After the final part of Istria & Dragonja tour you will not be rushed. We offer you the possibility to rest and enjoy in the greenery of our large Mediterranean garden.
