Climate
Along the coast, the typically Mediterranean climate prevails. Summers are long and dry, while winters inverniare mild and pleasant with rare snowfall.
The annual average air temperature along the northern coast is 14 degrees Celsius. January is the coldest month with an average of 6 degrees Celsius, while July and August are the warmest months with a temperature fluctuating around 24 degrees Celsius. The period in which the daily average of the air temperature exceeds 10 degrees C lasts about 260 days a year and the warm weather, with daily peaks exceeding 30 degrees C, lasts at most about twenty days.
The characteristic winds are the bora, the sirocco and the mistral. The bora blows from north to south, carrying a dry and serene time; the sirocco, hot wind, blows from the south and brings rain, while the light mistral blows in summer from the sea towards the mainland. The minimum sea temperature is in March, when it varies between 9 and 11 degrees Celsius, while it touches its biggest peaks in August, with 24 degrees Celsius. Freezing of the sea in small, shallow bays is a very rare phenomenon.
